Sing With Us!

Thank you for your interest in singing with Vivace! Join us February 3-7 for our “Bring a Friend to Vivace” rehearsals. To reserve your spot or inquire about which class to visit, please reach out to Kristina Nakagawa.

Our spring semester began on Monday, January 27, 2025, but we will continue to welcome new singers into our community throughout the semester. For specific information about our choir levels, please take a look at our ensemble descriptions.

Vivace’s process for new singers is multi-faceted. Singers can either:

  • Attend a Trial Class to test out our program, using the ensemble descriptions linked above as a guide.

  • Participate in a 1:1 Placement Appointment to make sure that the singer is placed in the “Just Right” ensemble for their age and ability level. Placement Appointments are not required for singers ages 7 and under - students of this age should visit our Primo ensemble. For singers ages 8 and up, a recommendation for registration will be made after the Placement Appointment.

    • Information about scheduling a Placement Appointment is below. This step in our process may be waived after a Trial Class if the instructor feels that they are ready to join the ensemble after their visit.

TRIAL CLASS

All new singers are invited to come experience one of our rehearsals as a trial class completely free of charge. To reserve your spot for an upcoming rehearsal, please reach out to Andrea White by email.

Placement Appointments

All new singers age 8 and up need to participate in an in-person 1:1 placement with our Executive Artistic Director. Singers who are age 6 and 7 can enroll immediately in our Primo choir, and families should email us for information about registration. Vivace's placements are a relaxed and friendly way for the director to find the best fit for new singers in one of our chorus levels. Please reach out to Kristina Nakagawa to schedule a placement.

About our placement process:

  • Singers interested in our Training Choirs (age 8 through grade 5) will be asked to echo rhythm and melodic patterns and sing a simple song. Older singers may be asked to read music as well.

  • Singers interested in our Performing Choirs (grade 6 and up) will be asked to sing a song of their choice and sight-read.
